32 inch tapered flange for an out of plumb pipe

A contractor needed a wedge shaped flange to correct a 24 inch pipe assembly that was not plumb. Laser cut blank, taper turned on our 48 inch lathe.

A 24 inch pipe assembly had been installed out of plumb, and cutting and rewelding it was off the table. The fix was a spacer flange with the taper built in: 1 inch thick on one side and 3/8 inch on the other, bolted between the two existing flanges with a gasket on each face. Across 32 inches that is about 1.1 degrees of correction.

We laser cut the blank from 1 inch A36 plate, 32 inches outside and 24 inches inside, with 20 bolt holes elongated so the bolts pass cleanly once the faces are angled. The taper was turned on our 48 inch swing lathe. To hold the part at the right angle we welded angle iron to the outside of the flange so that when the feet bolted flat to the faceplate, the face sat at the taper. From there it was a straight facing cut.

The finished flange shipped the week after the job landed.
