A cut steel sign for a charity ride

A local tavern sponsoring a charity motorcycle ride needed a sign that would hold up outdoors. Laser cut steel, powder coated in house.

A local tavern sponsoring a charity motorcycle ride asked us for a sign that would look good at the event and still look good years later. Vinyl and printed board fade and peel; cut steel does not.

The sign is 36 by 27 inches of 1/8 inch carbon steel with the tavern's logo cut out as negative space, so the light comes through the letters and the tree line. The tricky part of any cut out sign is the letters: the inside of an O or a D falls out unless something holds it. We added small tabs to each letter counter, two on the larger letters and one on the smaller ones, so the artwork reads cleanly and nothing is lost.

The customer's artwork came in as a vector file built for printing, which is not the same as a file built for cutting. We cleaned up the overlapping outlines, sized the two versions the customer wanted, and sent the cut file out. Back in the shop the sign was powder coated black in our own oven.

Turnaround was under three weeks including the finish. If you have a logo and want it in steel, send the artwork and the size and we will quote it.
